We get this question a lot: “Should I put this in Align or my project management tool?”
While you can manage your entire daily to-do list in Align, the platform’s superpower isn't tracking every sub-task—it’s keeping your "North Star" in sight. Think of it this way:
-
Your PM Tool (Asana, Jira, etc.) is the Engine Room. It’s for the "How." Use it for granular tasks, dependencies, and the complex moving parts of a project.
-
Align is the Navigation Deck. It’s for the "Why." Use it for the high-level priorities and habits that actually move your company’s strategy forward.
How to Build a Strategic Habit
To move from "busy" to "strategic," here is the workflow we recommend to get the most out of the system:
1. Start from Strategy, Not Tasks Before adding work, look at your quarterly Priorities. Do they roll up to your annual initiatives? Are there too many? (We recommend no more than 3). Ask yourself: “How much time can I realistically devote to these each week?”
2. Win the "13-Week Sprint" Break those Priorities into weekly milestones. Aim for one concrete milestone per week—something that moves the needle, no matter how small.
3. Close the Loop in your Huddles This is where strategy becomes culture. Make sure your milestones are visible where you actually talk to your team.
New Feature: We’ve made this seamless. Inside any Priority, click the Advanced section and look for the "Align to Huddle" button. This ensures your progress is front-and-center during your 1:1s or team meetings.
Coming Soon: Strategic Clarity (Minus the Context Switching)
For the Asana users in the building, we're making it even easier to bridge the gap:
-
Mid/Late May: Our Asana Tasks integration launches.
-
June: You’ll be able to connect specific Asana Projects directly to your Align Priorities, so your "Engine Room" and "Navigation Deck" stay perfectly in sync.
