Hey there,
We are about to release a great new feature that will make running a data-driven business even easier! With that, I thought it’d be a good time to review how numbers work inside Align. Over the next few emails, we’ll walk through each number component and how to use them.
Here’s what we’ll cover:
-
Metrics
-
Quarterly Targets
-
Critical Numbers
-
Priorities
-
KPI Cards
Let’s start with Metrics.
Metrics = Numbers. Simple as that.
But here’s why they matter:
✅ Metrics are your Source of Truth.
✅ They're the only number type that can connect to outside integrations.
✅ Update a Metric once — the change shows up everywhere.
✅ You can visualize them in Cards, with or without a target.
There are two ways to build Metrics into your workflow:
-
Path 1: Start by listing the big numbers you want to track (Revenue, ARR, Profit, Employee Count, etc.), then drill down into leading indicators that drive those numbers. Add each of them to the Metrics list - don't forget the owner.
-
Path 2: When you’re creating a Critical Number, Priority, or Quarterly Target, spin up a Metric to track it instead of using the card itself. Choose "metric" from the drop down list then add the metric if it's a new number.
Pro Tip: Keep your Metrics clean. Already have a Revenue Metric? Use it — don’t create a new one!
Stay tuned — next up, we’ll dig into Quarterly Targets and a handy quick reference sheet.
